Because testing here operates under a special U.S. Treasury (OFAC) license, availability has occasionally paused in the past, so always confirm your specific date is live on ETS's official schedule before paying.

Q.2. Why can't I pay with my Iranian bank card or PayPal?

International sanctions restrict which payment rails can process transactions from Iran. PayPal and many Iranian-issued cards won't work for ETS registration. You'll generally need a credit or debit card issued by a bank that isn't restricted under current sanctions.

As of January 1, 2026, U.S. Presidential Proclamation 10998 fully suspends F-1, M-1, and J-1 visa issuance for Iranian nationals who don't already hold a valid visa. This is current and may change — check travel.state.gov and speak with your university's international office or an immigration attorney for your situation. It doesn't reduce the value of a TOEFL score, though: it's also accepted across the UK, Canada, Australia, and Europe, and your score stays valid for two years, so preparing now keeps your options open.
